We are producers of organic and biodynamic certified wines grown high in the hills above the Southern Rhone valley. Mourchon
& the McKinlay
The story of Domaine de Mourchon and the McKinlay family begins back in Scotland during the 1970’s when Walter and his wife Ronnie chose an excellent Vaqueras as the house wine for their restaurant at The Udny Arms Hotel in Aberdeenshire.
Some years later, when their businesses were sold, the fondness for this wine found them scouting the Southern Rhone valley for a small, established vineyard to which they might retire.
More
Even though the vines at Mourchon had no winery, or indeed house, this outstanding terroir set in an extraordinarily beautiful location could not be denied. The land was purchased in 1998 and they then set about the not inconsiderable challenge of building a state-of-the-art gravity-flow winery and establishing a brand.
The History of
Domaine de Mourchon:
from creation to reputation
These challenges were considerably eased by the arrival of winemaker, Sebastien Magnouac, who, from an Armagnac family in the South-West of France, had just completed his oenology studies in Bordeaux. Over time, and with careful attention to detail in both the vines and the cellar, Sebastien has established a unique signature to the terroirdriven wines which have made their mark by being awarded consistent reviews of 90+ points.
Walter and Ronnie have now taken well-earned retirement back in the UK and have left their daughter, Kate, to manage the vineyard with Sebastien.
